Scott L. Carpenter, Principal, Cultural Resources Planner

Scott L. Carpenter has a varied background in cultural resources and multi-disciplinary planning and research, extending over 25 years.  He has coordinated and directed numerous projects for private and governmental organizations.  Mr. Carpenter has extensive experience in program and project planning, research, compliance with various federal and state environmental regulations, and program planning in areas of historic preservation, scenic, wild river, wilderness area and other legislative designations.

Prior to forming InteResources Planning, Mr. Carpenter served as an archaeologist and cultural resources planner for the U.S. National Park Service.  Most recently, he was employed as Park Archaeologist and Cultural Resources Branch Chief for Yosemite National Park, and served as the Co-Director of the Yosemite Research Center for Cultural and Natural Sciences.  In these positions he was responsible for providing cultural resources expertise on numerous multi-disciplinary land use planning and development projects.  He has also been responsible for Native American consultations, ethnographic research, developing interpretive, museum, public education and professional training programs.  He has also served on several committees and boards of directors of a wide array of professional and nonprofit organizations.

Mr. Carpenter has conducted archaeological and historical research as well as various cultural resources planning projects throughout the United States.  He has lectured and consulted on projects in China and Russia.  He is proficient in planning and implementing geographic information systems and related mapping projects.  He also possesses extensive skill and experience in all elements of technical photography including digital and film.

Mr. Carpenter received his Master of Arts degree in Museum Education from the George Washington University in Washington, D.C., in 1977, with a special emphasis in anthropology and historic preservation.  He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology from the University of Colorado in 1976, with a specialization in North American archaeology.
 

Katherine G. Alvin, Associate, Natural Resources Specialist and GIS Coordinator

Katherine G. Alvin has over a decade of experience with natural resource applications and GIS technologies.  Her Environmental Studies BA and Soil Science BS both emphasized Land Use Planning, which prepared her for her work with the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service and the Gallatin Conservation District. Expanding on traditional scientific field research, Ms. Alvin became skilled in using GPS tools and Geographic Information Systems to facilitate all aspects of land use planning support.

Over the past twelve years, Ms. Alvin has participated at all levels of research projects, from project design and development to data delivery and reporting. She has extensive experience with a broad range of data research and processing tasks, including satellite imagery analysis, hard copy map conversion, on-the-fly GPS inventory, and cartographic production.

Throughout her career Ms. Alvin has been responsible for procedural development, technical writing, and training. Her experience with presentation and instruction to a wide variety of audiences, from children to adults, highlights her down-to-earth and practical communication skills.

As owner of Carto-Logic GIS, Ms. Alvin complements the services of InteResources Planning by providing expertise in data collection, research, analysis, maintenance, and presentation. From conception to completion, Ms. Alvin can integrate an extensive knowledge of natural resources with the latest geospatial technology to enhance any project.
